Charles asks…

how to make dog agility equipment?

Hi all,

I have 3 dogs that I’d love to work in agility at home. My black lab has gone to classes and he LOVES it. Anyways I was looking for plans on how to build jumps, a-frame, tire jump, walk over, teeter, weave poles, etc. if you guys know of any free plans I could use I would very much appreciate it. I’ve looked all over the place and haven’t found much.

Thanks in advance
Bosco you can email me it’s just animalsroc4evr@yahoo.com

Mike answers:

I have plans for alot of the equipment but i would have to have your email and email them to you.

Otherwise people sell them on ebay and they will email it to you..or there are some books out there. And they are pretty cheap

help, building jump chute?

I was planning on making a jump chute in the ring for a day at my barn so i could free jump some horses there. here is the layout i drew :

http://s706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/corinne123_123/?action=view&current=Scan03032009_120911.jpg

I know that for the pink section, I am going to use simple rope. But I have no idea what i should use for the yellow part. I don’t have enough jump standards and poles…i need to use them for actual jumps. So i was just wondering if you guys had any ideas!

p.s. I don’t have much money so nothing too too expensive and something i could probably pick up at my local hardware shop or something.

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS!!!!

Mike answers:

I would not recommentd rope as it is sometimes difficult for horses to see and if they run through it they can get tangled and get burns (I am only saying becuase I have seen it happen with smaller pens being set up inside larger ones). If you do use rope, drape sheets or towels (horizontally) across it so as to make it look like a solid wall (secure sheet corners with rocks, bricks so as not to spook horse). You can get pvc rails cheap, home depot or lowes has some for not too much money you could stack them on top of standards, hay bales, buckets (obviously to get the right height bales and buckets must be stacked several high). Plastic conduit and piping is cheap, and not dangerous either. Some horses respect comes (you can swipe from road side and construction zones). Plastic barrels like the 55 gallon drums work too. Long tree limbs and spare boards work too. Search craigs list for free building materials and once you get an idea of what is available you can bette rpicture one in you mind. Good luck and have fun.

Ruth asks…

Opinions on a sustainable energy project?

So we had to think up of an innovative energy source that may seem a bit improbable today, but would be achievable in the near future with better technology. So my idea is…

is to use electromagnets. It may seem a bit humorous and impractical, but there is actually research already being done the topic of magnets as an energy source. The exact plan is to lay a permanent electromagnetic wires, most likely fiber optics such as a copper or glass mix, since they are the strongest, and attach the opposing magnetic side to a lightweight but sturdy vehicle similar to a car. The car will then be “floating” on top of the ground. An energy efficient source to power the electromagnets would be solar panels. For the car to move we will also have to harvest solar energy so the vehicles will be able to propel themselves forward, by the use of fans. The destination will be programmed into a computer, which will be sent to a larger, central computer where routes will be predetermined to avoid accidents. The same computer will also control the flow of the electromagnets. This system will resemble the same device used to coordinate plane, and train routes, except on a much closer more complicated scale. This project will be similar to the MAGlev train in shanghai, and the currently identical one planned for Las Vegas, except it would involve open roads, and not exactly vehicles on a fixed track.

The problems I can currently point out include:
1. The cars with attracting poles will slam into each other if they are too close.
2. Appliances and other metal objects will be affected by the magnetic grid.
3. To build a grid under the city, it would have to excavated first, including all the building on it.

Feel free to point out an other problems you can think of, or ways to enhance my idea. If you could include some background information on any sustainable energy projects you’ve done, that would be great, if not, its okay. Any comments at all would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Mike answers:

There are a few trains about the world that use the technology of opposing magnetic fields to run trains around on a track. So if your idea is supposed to be far-fetched, with the floating magnetic cars be really far-fetched? Also, think of the price.

HARD riddles to solve. Who can do it?

(Not my riddles. Taken from a book.)
A lady working the border of Canada and the Uninted staes, got a call stating a potential terrorist might have gotten through, during her work hours. She only inspected three people that day as the crossed the border. Some coming into Canada, some going out. He was said to be caucasion and male. She thuroghly inspected these three “crossers”. One pale man was crossing, and she saw a ski pole in the back. He told her he had been hiking in new Hampshire. She let him go. Another car cam with a man and woman, and the man had a moustache and dirty hands. (Which is what the suspect looked like.) They claimed to have been changing their tires, because they had a flat. She saw a tire in the car, and let them go. The last man who cam was sweating profusely. He had clean delicate hands, and a slight build. He was going through this way to get on a free way, alowwing him to get to detroit faster. One of these travelers lied. Who was it?
Torrey was a master art theif. She would steal paintings, then re-sell them. This time, she was going after Picasso. She had been a cleaning lady for the Montag’s for months. She cut the screen to the bathroom window, confident it wouldn’t be noticed until inversigators did a detailed search. She re-wired the window’s security. She slid the painting on a sling, to a flower bed below, on her lunch break.
She made sure to leave her fingerprints on the dorrknobs (she was the cleaning lady after all) but not sink or toilet, because she used gloves. She took a slightly worn man’s Nike sneaker
from her bag to make footprints, in hopes of throwing investigators off. She later dropped of the painting, and threw away the sneaker miles away. Even with her careful planning. She made a mistake, that could make her a prime suspect. What was it? Star if you find difficult or interesting please :)

Donna asks…

What Are Your Top 10 Video Game Bosses?

I have not played that many old school games like Sonic, Galaga, Mario, Crash Bandicoot, and stuff from that era. Most of the games I have played are from about 2001 on since I am only 14. I know that the Final Fantasy games have many great bosses, but RPGs do not interest me. I have also heard about great bosses in the Metal Gear Solid series. I haven’t started those games yet but I plan to in the future. I also plan to play the Devil May Cry series and the Prince of Persia series.

But anyway, my top 10 bosses…..

1) Aries from God of War. Awesome boss for sure. I am willing to bet that the Zeus and Colossus of Rhodes battles from God of War 2 are better than this, but I have yet to play GOW2. It just had so much emotion behind it and that guy was HUGE. Nothing is more intense than a mortal dueling a god in a bloody blades and magic fight.

2) The Hydra from God of War. Another great boss from GOW. I started to place this in the number 1 spot since the battle itself is much more intense, but the Aries battle had been built up throughout the entire game, so it had to be number 1. But this one was much more enjoyable and adrenaline pumping, especially when you have to lift yourself out of the Hydra’s mouth and impale it on the bird’s nest pole. Awesome.

3) Courtney Gears from Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. This boss did not have what the other boss battles have. It was not that difficult with the right guns. It was not long and grueling, because the average gamer could probably beat her in about 5 minutes. But what it did have was uniqueness. Nothing is more original that dueling basically a robot version of Britney Spears with a mass of crazy guns and other weapons.

4) The big Chimera monster from Resistance: Fall of Man. I forgot the precise name of this, I am not even sure if the game tells you the name of it. But the fight is awesome. The sheer size of the creature made the boss battle very adrenaline pumping.

5) Hades’ Minotaur from God of War. Once again, a boss from GOW makes the list. Not too much to say about this that I haven’t said about the other GOW bosses. It’s big and it’s awesome.

6) The Precursor Robot from Jak 3. I love the Jak series. They have everything you want in a game: action, story, and comedy (from Daxter) are all in the games. This boss was awesome because it had a big variety of attacks and the attacks were unpredictable. It was also intense jumping from pillar to pillar all while shooting and dodging laser beams.

7) Demyx from Kingdom Hearts 2. Awesome and it may be just me, but this boss was freakin hard!!! Maybe it was just the way that he used the water so expertly and all of his attacks were right on you. Either way it was an awesome boss.
8) Luxord from Kingdom Hearts 2. This battle was just fun. Plain and simple. It was also unique, because of the dice and the playing cards.

9) Muggshot from Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus. Not that long of a fight. It only took me about 4 minutes to beat him, but it was really fun. Just the rush of smacking the mirrors while the bullets are whizzing by you. I love the Sly Cooper games. They cell shaded graphics make it feel like you are playing through a giant comic book.

10) Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts 2. Okay. I honestly believe that Sephiroth is the 2nd most evil character out of manga (Japanese comics), anime, comics, games, books, anything. The only guy more evil is Joker, and that should not even count because it is impossible to be more evil than Joker without being Satan himself. The Xemnas battle is probably better, but I haven’t played the KH2 in a while and I hadn’t reached that battle yet.

So let me hear your top 10 and feel free to recommend me some games!!!! But I only own a PS3, so now XBOX 360 stuff please. PS2
games are okay as well since they will work on a PS3.

Mike answers:

10) Gannon from the Zelda series. He deserves a mention just for coming back to life so many times.

9) Bowser from Super Mario Bros. He spit flames and threw hammers at me every four levels. How can I not love him?
8) Protoman from various MegaMan games. That ascot was sweeeeeet.

7) Lord of the Black Abyss from Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits. When a final boss takes more than 30 minutes to defeat, you know he’s bad-*ss.

6) Jack of Blades from Fable. Nasty little bugger, but he’s go style.

5) Axel from Kingdom Hearts 2. The guy had style, and in the end he ended up helping the good guys.

4) Sae from Fatal Frame 2. Serious freakiness…

3) Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. The original is by far the best… The KH and KH2 version had no personality.

2) Kefka from Final Fantasy VI. The laugh alone has become a classic, and as a bonus, he lends credibility to my theory that all clowns are inherently evil.

1) The Turks from Final Fantasy VII. I like them because they live by the adage “He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day”.
